org Created in 1978 by the New Mexico Legislature, the Department of Cultural Affairs represents New Mexico's dedication to preserving and celebrating the cultural integrity and diversity of our state.
The Department oversees a broad range of New Mexico's arts and cultural heritage agencies.
These include 15 divisions representing a variety of programs and services.
For at least 4,000 years, people have been growing food in this region, and the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces tells this amazing story through interactive exhibits, demonstrations, oral histories, objects, and educational programs.
The campus features several barns, animals, a greenhouse, play areas for children, an amphitheater, the Heritage Garden and much more.
Permanent and changing exhibits, as well as a theater, library, gift shop, snack bar, and meeting rooms are located in the 100,000-square-feet, ranch-style Bruce King Building.
The combination of the beautiful, spacious main building and the 47- acre property with barns, trees, gardens, and animals create a physical working environment that is outstanding.
The Museum's staff members have varied backgrounds and combine their skills to make an efficient, positive team.
Why does the job exist? This position provides business support to the administration offices of the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum by preparing financial reports, analyzing and reporting data, maintaining financial records, assisting with budgets, standard office filing, creating revenue reports, maintaining office records, answering phones, and other business support tasks as necessary.
How does it get done? The Business Operations Specialist provides high-level financial support to the Division and administrative support to staff by a variety of methods, including:
preparing financial reports; maintaining records; tracking outstanding invoices; cash handling; and supporting Division supervisors with data and information.
This position maintains the account payables and receivables for the Division, ensures financial information is accurately tracked, recorded, and reported, and maintains a variety of spreadsheets regarding finances, budgets, and special projects.
The Business Operations Specialist provides direct support to the Division's Deputy Director, including, but not limited to, providing daily updates on revenue and expenses, creating quarterly reports for board meetings, maintaining and updating special project spreadsheets and providing status reports, and maintaining the Division's asset inventory.
This position will also assist the event coordinator with special event budgets, train admissions desk staff on procedures, and assist the educators with field trip invoices.
Other duties may include working museum events, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed, providing admissions desk support, and assisting with special projects.
Who are the customers? This position serves external and internal customers, including DCA peers and management, business vendors, New Mexico residents, national and international tourists, and school field trip groups.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or Accounting and two (2) years of directly related job experience in the areas of budgeting, accounting, auditing, purchasing, cash management and/or financial management.
Minimum Qualification Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or Accounting and two (2) years of directly related job experience in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management and/or contract management.

Employment Requirements Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with sitting and extensive use of computer and telephone, occasional after-hours presence required onsite at events, and very occasional in-state travel.
